About

Karen Hebert, PhD
Karen Hebert, Ph.D. is a trauma-informed depth psychologist, sound healing practitioner, and yoga teacher devoted to helping people return to clarity, coherence, and wholeness. Her work bridges psychology, spirituality, and the healing power of sound—grounded in rigorous training and guided by a deep respect for the nervous system, the soul, and the lived human story.
Professional Journey

Karen began taking yoga classes in college and felt led to become a Registered Yoga Teacher after years of experiencing how breath, movement, and meditation can re-pattern the nervous system and open the heart. During her doctoral research, she explored the transformative and spiritual experiences people have with music. Her dissertation, which focused on the mystical experiences women had while singing, affirmed her lifelong sense that sound is a powerful form of medicine and can awaken the deeper Self.
While writing her dissertation, Karen encountered the pioneering work of Eileen McKusick. In Biofield Tuning, she found a language and a framework that echoed what she had always sensed: sound can help the body release stored stress, restore energetic flow, and return the system to greater harmony. Karen became certified as a Biofield Tuning Practitioner and has continued to train across multiple sound healing modalities with a variety of teachers and instruments. She views the body as an instrument, capable of being gently re-tuned through vibration, resonance, and rhythm.
Clinical Work
Karen founded Sweetwater Practice, LLC in 2016 and continues to serve as a trauma therapist there. Her therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based trauma treatment with a holistic, mind-body-spirit orientation, supporting clients in building resilience, restoring internal safety, and reconnecting with their deeper Self.
Licensure note: Karen is licensed in the states of New Mexico and Georgia and can provide psychotherapy to clients located in those states. Her clinical therapy work stands separate from her sound healing practice.
A Living Practice
Karen loves to sing, play the guitar, and uses her spare time to learn new instruments to refine a range of sound healing approaches. She believes sound healing is part of the next wave of care for a world longing for deeper connection, coherence, and wholeness. She serves on the Healing Seekers board, a non-profit dedicated to helping people achieve their highest health, peace, and well-being.
